What’s new in kitchens: our 2024 trend predictions

29th January 2024

At Et Lorem HQ, we’ve been talking all things kitchen trends for 2024. For us, it’s always important to stay au fait with all the latest design and style developments; However, we resist the lure of short-term fads and fashions. That’s because, first and foremost, we believe in creating quality kitchens that will stand the test of time, from the style of your cabinet doors to the performance of your appliances.

As kitchen designers; We always develop our designs organically; working closely with homeowners, interior designers and boutique developers to achieve their kitchen goals. Priding ourselves on tailoring every minute detail within your kitchen walls to accommodate your lifestyle and personal taste.

We view kitchen trends as a source of inspiration that complements and enhances the optimum kitchen design vision. For us, function and form are intrinsically linked to the latest kitchen trends and they should translate into creative designs with longevity in mind. We always strive to create a kitchen that optimises the aesthetics, while fitting perfectly with the clients’ needs and how the space will be used, for many years to come.

We installed over 100 stunning kitchens last year; and a particular colour that’s here to stay for 2024 and beyond is green. It incorporates so many versatile shades, from deep emerald to pale sage. Mixing and matching different hues adds interest and impact, without overwhelming. For example, for our Fulham Villa project, we hand-painted the bespoke kitchen cabinetry in Farrow & Ball Pigeon and Green Smoke.

Green might be on-trend now, but it’s a colour with longevity too. It can be a soothing, nature-inspired hue that suits both classic and contemporary settings. It doesn’t date, functions surprisingly well as a neutral, complements a wide range of other colours, and it’s one of our favourite kitchen trends.

Team muted shades with natural materials, such as a wooden butcher’s block on a kitchen island, and we can create the perfect traditional kitchen. Meanwhile, for a more modern kitchen design, choosing an invigorating uplifting colour way and contrasting this with a brighter contrasting shade, such as pink on the other kitchen cabinets, will add contemporary appeal.

The new Hawksmoor Sea Salt and Beach House combination from Masterclass Kitchens showcases perfectly how a contemporary green palette works well with timeless neutrals.

Coloured kitchens don’t have to be bright to be beautiful. The rise in popularity of dark and dramatic interiors has translated into a trend for black kitchens. It might be a strong statement shade, but black too is one of those very versatile kitchen trends. It can be incorporated into a design as either an accent, on a kitchen island for example, or a principal tone.

This colour can create a minimalist or maximalist effect, according to the client brief. Kitchen trends featuring bigger blocks of black, using an entire wall of cabinetry, for example, look stunning – and they are practical too, especially for homes that feature pets and young children. An alternative is to create a dedicated black ‘zone’; pairing a black sink and tap with a black worktop, for example.

This new Masterclass kitchen features Hardwick Onyx and reeded glass cabinets. It taps into the trend for black kitchens, but still looks fresh and modern, adding drama without darkness.

We predict their new Le Chic collection, which offers a contemporary twist on a classic design with a selection of attractive veined patterns, will be all the rage in 2024. These natural stone-inspired designs can add a look of natural beauty to all sorts of kitchen spaces. Their distinctive vein-patterned surfaces add sophistication to any heart of the home and can create strong style statements on kitchen islands. If you add a statement light solution above, such as kitchen pendant lighting, the light from these will help to enhance the look of the beautiful veining, which contrasts beautifully with the other colours within each surface.

Multi-functionality is always on-trend. Taps that dispense both boiling and filtered water help to keep work surfaces uncluttered (no kettle required!). They also offer valued convenience, and save energy, which is one of those highly popular kitchen trends, which shows no signs of waning.

Tap into style & functionality

Tried-and-tested brands we can recommend include Quooker and Buster + Punch. The latter’s 4 in 1 tap can be matched to other kitchen hardware, as well as sockets and switches, for a fully cohesive look. Or simply choose from four statement finishes – brass, steel, gunmetal and welders’ black. You can then contrast or blend the finish you choose with your chosen kitchen cabinets.

The design for the Buster + Punch 4in1 hot water tap is stunning and this model is made in Italy, which is renowned for exceptional craftsmanship, so it comes with all the right style credentials. However, this is matched by its functionality with hot, cold, filtered cold and instant boiling water (98C), and the latest kitchen trends for 2024 are all about cleverly combining the two.

Not all kitchens are inside the home. In partnership with FÒGHER, we also create bespoke outdoor kitchens. FÒGHER combines superior Italian design with professional standard performance. They offer a made-to-measure modular system that’s ideal for exterior settings. So, you can ultimately maximise your outdoor space, which will instantly improve your entertaining options in warmer months.

More people are moving towards al fresco dining in the comfort of the garden with specialist outdoor kitchen equipment, which is up to the job. And this is a trend, which continues to grow more than ever in the UK. So, we offer highly-durable designs and weather-resistant materials, which can withstand extreme temperatures at either end of the scale.

For 2024 FÒGHER has tapped into the trend for colour with an exciting new shade palette for its Agher kitchen collection. The new options are Ancient Sage, Material Silk, Sienna and Obsidian.
