Et Lorem x Castlethorpe Homes – The Walled Garden, Cotswolds
Et Lorem was delighted to collaborate with Castlethorpe Homes on The Walled Garden, a boutique development of just four detached family homes nestled within a walled garden in the heart of The Cotswolds. Surrounded by rolling countryside and characterful stonework, this exclusive collection of four-bedroom homes is defined by its serene setting and architectural charm. Each home benefits from access to a private wild meadow, enhancing the sense of calm and connection to nature.
Castlethorpe Homes invited us to design the kitchens, utility spaces, and cloak cupboards across the development. The brief was to create interiors that felt peaceful, welcoming, and in keeping with the traditional Cotswold aesthetic, while still delivering the comfort and function expected of a modern family home.
To achieve this, we took inspiration from the surrounding landscape and architectural detailing. The exterior of each home is constructed in classic Cotswold stone, so we chose materials and tones that reflected the warm, natural palette found outside. The furniture specification included British-made painted shaker cabinetry, offering timeless appeal with a handcrafted feel. Carefully balanced with contemporary features, the design subtly nods to tradition without compromising on everyday functionality.
Each kitchen is thoughtfully designed to serve as the heart of the home—practical for family life and entertaining, yet elegant in style. High-quality composite worktops were selected not only for their durability but also for their soft, tactile finish, which enhances the welcoming atmosphere of each space, especially with the waterfall finish on the island and high-quality mitred joints.
The appliance specification balances performance and value. We combined Miele’s premium features with the reliability and accessibility of Bosch, resulting in a functional setup that caters to everyday use while supporting the homes’ premium positioning. Integrated appliances and considered storage solutions keep the spaces clean and uncluttered.
With sustainability in mind, each kitchen includes integrated recycling storage to support greener living and make waste separation a seamless part of daily life. The use of long-lasting materials and British-made furniture also reflects a thoughtful approach to environmental impact.
Utility rooms were designed with the same care and attention as the main kitchens. Consistency in cabinetry and worktops ensures a harmonious transition from space to space, while bespoke layouts reflect the individual needs of each home. Cloaks cupboards—often an overlooked feature—were also tailored to suit family life, with smart internal organisation and styling that matched the broader interior scheme.
This project is a great example of how Et Lorem collaborates with premium housebuilders to elevate the quality and cohesion of exclusive developments. Working closely with Castlethorpe Homes from the early stages of planning, we were able to offer design concepts that enhanced the vision for the site, while also managing specifications and detailing to suit budgets and timelines.
The result is a set of homes that are considered in every detail—where the kitchen and utility spaces echo the tranquillity of the surrounding wild meadow and where quality craftsmanship and thoughtful design come together seamlessly.
