Lucy & Adam’s Multi-Functional Family Kitchen

We absolutely love a challenge and the kitchen for this gorgeous period home in Putney was just that. Lucy and Adam wanted a cool, minimalist kitchen with maximum space for entertaining, recreating the buzz of the London eateries they frequent with their family. They also asked Et Lorem to include lots of storage and a home-office space within the design; something that could be concealed at the end of the day.

Lucy and Adam’s love of entertaining meant they wanted to be able to accommodate guests – lots of them. They commissioned a bespoke twelve-seat dining table capable of extending to seat 20 people and asked us to incorporate both set-ups into the design. Working out how to embrace those two arrangements comfortably, without having too much empty space when the table was closed, definitely gave us something to get our teeth into.

In the original brief Lucy and Adam explained how the kitchen would sit adjacent to a small office, but we encouraged them to think outside the box on this, literally. Since storage space was such a big priority, we suggested that they relocate the office inside the kitchen using a double pocket door, which would keep it hidden when guests were round. The original office space could then become a huge pantry. We loved the end result!
